Why can’t I install plugins on my website?

You may be looking at your OneCMS website and note that it is based on the very popular CMS WordPress, and think to yourself that you can begin installing or updating plugins yourself or by your IT department.

Why Can’t I install plugins on my site?

You should note that InterTech Media is not a hosting company but a digital agency. We manage the upkeep of the software and infrastructure, so you don’t have to. This management includes the core CMS and any plugins that are installed on it.

We require all plugins brought into the OneCMS environment will not interrupt the core functionalities, cause any harm to site stability, or duplicate another function or plugin that may already be in the system.

While installing a plugin may seem straightforward, there is much more involved on an enterprise-class installation of WordPress like OneCMS.

How Much Harm Can a 3rd Party Plugin Really Do?

A plugin you find online can be potent in terms of its effect on your website, and for all intents and purposes, it is treated as part of OneCMS and can thus affect your entire website.

When you install a plugin from a 3rd party developer, anything can happen. Your website’s load speed can be seriously affected. It can even crash entirely. That’s why we require every plugin installed on OneCMS to go through a series of code and functionality tests in a sandboxed testing environment before it ever reaches our live production environment.

What about plugin updates?

We keep all plugins installed on OneCMS updated to the latest versions and strive to update them shortly after new versions are available. Note that our development team modifies many plugins we install to work in harmony with our infrastructure to resolve 3rd party developer bugs or to optimize even further to ensure your website is always functioning at its peak level.

What if I want a plugin installed?

We have a comprehensive library of plugins available in OneCMS that should meet the majority of your digital needs. However, we will gladly evaluate a third-party plugin for installation. The evaluation of the plugin must pass our stringent testing, and there is a fee for this. You can request a plugin installation here.

OneCMS: Less time managing, more time monetizing.
