While we appreciate each and every request to make our platform better for content and revenue, we must make sure all plugins that are brought into the OneCMS environment will not interrupt the core functionalities, cause any harm to site stability or be duplicative of another function or plugin which may already be in the system.
While installing a plugin may seem straightforward, on an enterprise-class installation of WordPress, there is much more involved.
How Much Harm Can a 3rd Party Plugin Really Do?
A plugin can be very powerful in terms of its effect on your website, and for all intents and purposes, it is treated as part of WordPress and can thus affect your entire website.
If a 3rd party developer is good at what they do and is responsibly minded, the chances of running into problems are small (although it is far from guaranteed). But sadly, not all 3rd party developers are responsible with the plugins they create.
When a plugin from an unknown 3rd party developer is installed, anything can happen. Your website’s load speed can be seriously affected. It can even crash entirely. That’s why we require each and every plugin that is requested by a client to go through a series of code and functionality tests in a sandboxed testing environment before it ever reaches our live, production environment.
How Does Intertech Media Qualify Plugins?
For each 3rd party plugin that we install, it must go through a rigorous qualification process:
- Code reviewed by an Engineer for quality and safety.
- Code & Functionality changes required to perform properly in our environment are completed by an Engineer.
- Quality Assurance tested for functionality and server load.
- Additionally, each plugin requires ongoing maintenance for updates and optimization.
Is there a Cost Involved in Installing 3rd Party Plugins?
Because of the analysis and development work involved in adding new 3rd party plugins to our environment, there is a minimum charge of one-hour development work for any new plugins. This may be more depending on any additional development work required.
